How To Treat Internal Hemorrhoids

The hemorrhoids are treated initially to relieve the symptoms. The following options are available for getting relief from the internal hemorrhoids.

Sitz bath - In order to improve the blood circulation and reduce the swelling and pain in the affected part, you could take Sitz bath wherein you will sit in warm water covering your hips/ buttocks. This natural treatment for hemorrhoids is commonly used.

Ice Packs - are to be placed in the anal area for hemorrhoids that are severe.

Treat the affected areas with cortisone creams or suppositories, petroleum jelly, or hemorrhoidal cream.

Cotton underwear and loose clothing should be worn.

Clean the anus with wet toilet paper after each bowel movement.

Pain killers - These can help reduce the pain and itchiness but won’t cure hemorrhoids.

Enemas - normally acts as a bowel stimulant.Enema functions as a bowel stimulant.

OTC medications

Using OTC medications are popular for treating hemorrhoids at their early stages. The medications used for this are ointments, creams, laxatives, and petroleum jellies. The best known treatment is to use hemorrhoids cream that contain hydrocortisone and antiseptics.

The following treatments are given for curing internal hemorrhoids.

Rubber Band Ligation - This is used for treating internal hemorrhoids of 2nd degree and it is done as an outpatient treatment. This is a non-surgical procedure wherein a rubber band is tied on the tissue inflamed thereby reducing the blood flow.

Injection Sclerotherapy - is a medical process where the surgeon injects a chemical solution into the mucous membrane in the vicinity of the hemorrhoid. This chemical facilitates veins inflammation and closure and this shrinks the hemorrhoid.

Infrared Photocoagulation - is useful for treating small/medium size hemorrhoids. Infrared heat is applied on the hemorrhoids by the doctor with an IR device that coagulates the dilated veins of the hemorrhoids. The coagulated blood vessels cuts off the blood flow and the hemorrhoids die.

Laser Coagulation - involves passing of an electric current through the hemorrhoids; this current causes a chemical reaction. The electric current causes a chemical reaction that shuts down blood supply to the hemorrhoid thereby causing it to shrink.

Hemorrhoidectomy - It is a surgical procedure applied on the hemorrhoid groups. The groups of hemorrhoid in the anal canal are surgically removed using a laser, cautery device or scalpel.
