Blood pressure is the force of the flowing blood against the sides of the arteries. It is calculated in two numbers. The first figure is systolic pressure which reflects the pressure created when the heart contracts and pumps the blood through the artery. The lower number is diastolic pressure, which reflects the pressure in the vessels when the heart is at rest. If your systolic pressure is equal 140 mmhg, and/or your diastolic pressure is equal 90 mmhg on three distinct occasions while seated, a distinct diagnosis can be made.
Triggers of High Blood Pressure – Although behavior patterns and stress play an instrumental role, hypertension is most closely related to diet. Other key elements are:
• Excessive weight
• Lifestyle factors such as coffee consumption, alcohol intake, excessive salt use, and too little aerobic exercise.
• Cigarette smoking is a contributing factor in hypertension. Smoking is often positively associated with higher sugar, alcohol and caffeine intake. Nicotine stimulates adrenaline secretion.
• If you experience some of the following signs you should see your doctor to have your blood pressure taken: headache, fatigue, confusion, nausea, excessive perspiration, muscle tremors, chest pain, ear ringing
