Causes of Acid Reflux

Acid reflux is another term for a condition many people commonly call heartburn. When we eat and swallow our food it is allowed into the stomach area to be digested by the esophageal sphincter valve which should then close back up in order to stop the digestive fluid - hydrochloric acid from escaping.

Acid reflux problems start when for some reason this valve does not shut and the stomach’s digestive juices are allowed to flow back up causing the feeling of heartburn.

Although the real cause of this disorder has not yet been found, it is thought that eating the wrong foods could be to blame; Factors such as overeating, use of tobacco products and prescription medicines, food allergies and too much alcohol can contribute and/or aggravate this disorder.
