Afflicting people around the globe, the toenail fungus infection is widespread because the fungus itself is attracted to dark and damp places. Perhaps the most common remedy used today by those who treat toenail fungus without professional medical intervention is vinegar.

A natural remedy that can be substituted for synthetic medications and harsh chemicals, vinegar can both hinder and cure the malady that causes toenail fungus by taking advantage of its natural properties.

Both white and apple cider vinegar can be used to eradicate nail bed fungal infections, so the type of vinegar used boils down to personal preference. This is the cheapest remedy, but it is also among the most effective available.

You don’t need any special training to use vinegar to treat toenail fungus. Create a solution of one part vinegar and one part water. It is generally recommended that you both alternate between hot and cold baths, as well as soak your feet in the aforementioned vinegar solution for a minimum of 30 minutes daily. Finally, three baths evenly spaced throughout the day are recommended as well.

Because it causes a pH imbalance in the skin, toenail fungus can make skin more alkaline and thereby cause irritation of the cuticles and tissues. Because the infection can quickly become serious and often causes itchiness and pain in the affected area, fungus should be treated immediately.

The acidic properties of vinegar restore the pH balance of the skin, which allows the integumentary system to relieve the itchiness associated with the infection. There are various types of vinegar (such as apple cider vinegar, malt vinegar, fruit vinegar, rice vinegar, balsamic vinegar, coconut vinegar, cane vinegar, and a lot more) available today. It is inexpensive and can be bought at any local supermarket or grocery store.

The inflammation and pain that fungal infections cause have been shown to be reduced by the application of apple cider vinegar. Hydrogen peroxide can kill bacteria and viruses when used in conjunction with a regular vinegar application. An alternative to soaking your feet into a bath is to directly apply the vinegar on the base of the toenail at least twice a day. Just make sure that the vinegar will stay in place long enough to get the desired action from it. Two drops of vinegar are typically enough to effectively treat the problem.

Toenail fungus can be effectively treated with vinegar. The next time you get infected, look to your kitchen cupboard first for this simple but efficient solution for your fungal problem.
